    Caring Connections

Caring is something we all know about. By virtue of our humanity, we all have times when we need care from others and times of wanting to help care for others. Our Caring Connections Committee provides us with opportunities for these caring interactions.

When you need a hand, please give one of us a call. If you want to lend a hand, please le us know just how you can help by completing the Organizing our UUCWI Caring Resources Questionnaire. This questionaire can be found in our committee brochure. We will call on you only for those services you would like to offer. Unitarian Universalists have a long tradition of caring for each other when a need arises.

Deep, day-to-day connections can only happen in an environment of cooperation and reciprocity. Caring Connections will provide the structure; it is up to everyone to provide the heart. Committee members act as liaison to our minister and chaplains. We can complement their work and increase the ability of our community to respond to indidividual needs..

You may convey concerns to our Caring Connections Committee through our

Church Coordinator or find more information HERE

    Social Action Committee

The goal of the Social Action Committee is for UUCWI to be a significant presence in the community that responds to needs and acts as an instrument of social justice and positive change. Projects include

    • conducting a Memorial Day ceremony to remember those who have died in the Iraq War (photos below)
    • designating charities to receive our service offering once a month
    • sponsoring national Environmental Education Week, including sending letters to all the schools on the island about this event and compiling environmental education resources for teachers
    • working to register and educate voters to prepare for the recent election – view the nonpartisan Voter Education Guide we created
    • creating a brochure to guide individuals in aligning their charitable giving with their goals and priorities
    • adopting a section of Mutiny Bay Road near our property and cleaning up litter from the roadsides
    • supporting a congregation member's Peace Corp involvement in an indigeneous community in southern Bolivia; the committee is selling handmade baskets from that community and donating the profits to a scholarship for a village member to attend a vocational school.

The ceremony to remember those who have died in the Iraq War began and ended with songs. A tree was dedicated and will be planted once our Memorial Garden is ready. Between readings, all had an opportunity to say a few words and water the tree.
