UUCWI REFRESHMENT INSTRUCTIONS
All directions are as you stand in the doorway of the kitchen, facing into the kitchen.
* Come to the building one-half hour before the service to get the three coffee and tea pots
ready.
* Please provide a small half’n’half for coffee which is appreciated by our java gurus. The
kids (and thirsty adults) will need some fruit juice (UU supplies the cups).
* Coffee (decaf and caffeinated), coffee filters, napkins, sugar and tea are purchased by
UUCWI. The Kitchen Committee will keep us supplied with these items.
* Get the coffeepots ready to go – one regular, one decaf. The big silver one is for regular
and the small Mr. Coffee is for decaf. The small Mr. Coffee should have its glass pot positioned
perfectly or it will make a mess. Just monitor it for a while and see if you’ve positioned it
correctly. If it isn’t positioned well, the coffee will drip out of the carafe and onto the counter and
then you’ll know for sure that it needed to be positioned differently. All items for coffee and
tea are located in the roundabout near the sanctuary.
* Fill the electric tea kettle with water for tea drinkers. Start all three pots right before the
service so the coffee and tea are ready right away when the service ends. There is an on/off
switch on the tea kettle that is brown like the rest of the pot, but sticks out. Press it down and the
water will begin to heat.
* Put a large pot of water on the stove to heat slowly during the service. There is often
a pot already on the stove for this purpose. This is to have quick hot water for washing as our
hot water takes a long time to heat.
* The 2 kinds of coffee will each need a pile of cups (the little, plastic, stackable ones), a handful
of spoons, sugar, and sweetener near it. Spoons can be found in the top drawer, on the right of
the roundabout nearest to the sanctuary.
* The decaf coffee will stay where you’ve found it (to the right of the back sink) and so will the
big silver regular coffee maker (to the right of the sink on the left). The tea kettle likes to stay to
the right of the pass-through area.
For coffee measuring details, see the instruction sheet on the walls.
* After the social hour, wash the dishes and put them away. Use the big sink on the left; there
are 2 tubs for washing and rinsing that you can put into this sink so as to use less water.
Unfortunately, there is no dishwasher, so things must be washed by hand.
* We don’t have many needs for cloth or paper napkins since we eliminated nibbles! Any cloth
napkins that we happened to have used will go into the colorful cloth basket kept under the left-
hand sink itself in full view (not the cabinet under the sink). If you know that you will be at the
next service, you can wash the napkins at your home; this is much appreciated and very seldom
needed. If not, email Judy and she’ll get the kitchen committee to do this.
* Ensure that everything is left just as it was when you arrived. Sweep if too many crumbs. Be
sure all the lights are turned off in the sanctuary, classrooms, bathrooms …
• You’re done! THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!
Be sure the building is locked when you leave. Check all classrooms and sanctuary
doors to be sure they are shut. Turn the kitchen door deadbolt. You can exit through
the front door, turning the button on the inside handle so that it will lock when shut.
You do not need to turn the upper deadbolt. Be sure the door is locked from the
outside before you leave.
