WHIDBEY ISLAND WASHINGTON USA
GROVE OF THE PATRIARCHS
This short, nearly level hike leads along the beautiful Ohanapecosh River to an island, where grows some of the largest trees in Mount Rainier National Park. The grove is a place of quiet stillness where life moves at a different pace. Enjoy the solitude, even when there is a number of visitors. The giant trees, most already ancient when Columbus made his historic journey, stand sentinel over the cathedral-like stillness. Only the quiet flowing of the river and the faint whisper of the wind are heard. This is a great place to create, to ponder, to read, the list goes on. I have seen visitors sketching, writing, photographing, praying, or just standing in awe. This is truly a place of wonder. The little places of dreams are hidden everywhere. It is not difficult to imagine a visitor named Pooh.
The trail begins just inside the Stevens
Canyon entrance to Mount Rainier National Park. The trail is wide and
smooth but it would take a good deal of energy to get a wheelchair around
the loop.
